So what’s so great about Aloe skincare products? Well, let me first start with what good products do not include.
Product labels start with the ingredient that makes up the largest percent of the products contents. This is also called the main ingredient. A product that has a main ingredient of alcohol will dry out the skin.
Think about the last time you had a few too many glasses of wine (or beer or your favorite liquor), when you wake up in the morning you have an incredible thirst for water. That is a result of dehydration from the alcohol which has dissolved a portion of the water that the body has stored for use.
The labels might list this as Isopropyl alcohol, SD alcohol 40, or Ethyl alcohol to name a few. Alcohol strips away the natural protection contained within the skin to fight infection. This will also leave the pH all out of balance and will even lead to increased fine lines and wrinkles!
Side note: In case your wondering, nope, I do not use alcohol to clean wounds. I use hydrogen peroxide.
So what about water? You may be wondering why water is such a bad thing as the first ingredient. Well, water is of course the main source of life for any plant or animal.
But why would you want to pay good money for a product that is primarily made of water, with a couple other ingredients added in for good measure? The answer is… you wouldn’t.
Even if water is not the first ingredient, but listed somewhere further down the list, wouldn’t this mean that it is essentially a filler and only diluting the benefits of the other ingredients? Well, the simple answer is yes, that’s exactly what this means. The aloe skincare products I use, contain no water or alcohol and best of all, the main ingredient is aloe.
I am a huge proponent of water, and drink 60 or more ounces of filtered water a day, but I don’t want this as the main ingredient in my skincare products (or any other products) that I pay good money for. If you want more water in your skin, the most effective way to get it there is to drink it and let your body do the rest.
Aloe offers some amazing benefits to your skin, however you need to be careful which brands of aloe skincare products you choose. All products are not created equal and many contain dangerous chemicals that can leave your skin confused.
